Women / Human Rights
The garment industry has always been and remains to be one of the most female-dominated industries. In the Asia-Pacific region, which comprises major garment-producing countries, women make up the majority of the textile sector workforce, accounting for 70% of workers in China and reaching up to 90% in Cambodia. Unfortunately, the lack of appropriate working conditions for these women in most garment-producing countries remains a devastating unresolved issue. Underpaid earnings with grueling schedules, harsh and unsafe working environments, and the lack of access to healthcare and insurance are only a few examples of the significant unjust problems faced by women working in the industry on a daily basis.
