Toxic Barriers for Recycling

Throughout the textile product lifecycle, there are many hazardous chemicals involved at all stages. Many of them are toxic to humans and the environment. When used clothing containing these chemicals are recycled, these chemicals remain persistent and cause further contamination of newly produced recycled fabrics and therefore this creates a significant barrier for safe and efficient recycling practices. Although the danger of many toxic chemicals is well known, the numerous potential problems of their presence in specifically textiles and fabrics have not yet been widely studied, and there is limited information available to consumers.
